Each year, three local high school juniors are chosen to represent Fairfield Electric Cooperative on the Washington Youth Tour. The week-long educational trip gives students a chance to see government in action, visit historical sights and learn about electric cooperatives.
Fairfield Electric Cooperative's representatives will travel to Washington D. C with approximately 40 high school juniors from other South Carolina electric cooperatives. Once there, the South Carolina representative's will join nearly 1,400 students representing cooperatives from around the country.
Fairfield's Youth Tour representatives will be chosen on the basis of their school and community involvement, communication skills and knowledge about cooperatives.
In addition, the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina will award a $2000 scholarship to one of the South Carolina Youth Tour participants. The recipient of the scholarship will be judged on an essay, an interview, and participation during the tour.
Don't miss this opportunity for a great trip and scholarship. For additional information or an application, contact Doug Payne or Lisa Cooper at (803) 754-0153.
