Fairfield Electric Cooperative’s SAFER (Security Alarms for Emergency Response) program offers state-of-the-art motion detectors, wireless remote control and other sophisticated features that will increase the security of your home...and your peace of mind.

Will SAFER help me lower the cost of insuring my home?
SAFER not only provides reliable protection, but it usually helps reduce your homeowner’s insurance premium. Most insurance companies give a discount on the homeowner’s insurance premium when a security system is installed. When you include smoke alarms as part of a monitored security system, you qualify for the greatest discount the company can allow. Contact your insurance company for more information.

Can I get SAFER even though I am not a Fairfield Electric customer?
A customer does not have to receive electricity from Fairfield Electric to obtain the security service. Fairfield Electric is fully licensed and insured as required by law and is certified by the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association.

How does the monitoring work?
In the event of an alarm, the system will dial a toll-free number and send a coded message to our monitoring center. The monitoring center will then call the alarm location to confirm the alarm, except in the case of a silent or duress alarm. The center will dispatch the appropriate response authority if:

1. it does not get an answer after three rings

2. it reaches your answering machine or

3. it is answered by someone who does not know your prearranged code word. The systems are monitored by Security Central.

How much does it cost to have my system monitored?
Monitoring currently costs only $19.50 each month, regardless of the number of components in the system. A 10 percent discount is given for payment of a year’s monitoring in advance. The service ensures that even when you are away from home, someone will respond if your alarm goes off. If smoke detectors are part of your system, the fire department will be called to your house if no one is at home.

What is the response time?
The response to a triggered alarm is very prompt. Almost without exception, customers who trigger their alarms accidentally report that the confirmation call from the monitoring services comes within 30 seconds.

What if I have problems with my system?
Fairfield Electric stands behind the services we offer. All components and labor are warranted for a full year. If you experience any problems or have any questions, call Fairfield Electric. We also offer periodic check-ups upon request.

What if I have a power outage?
You can choose from a variety of options to form your own personal security system, but all will come with a battery
back-up to provide you with peace of mind.

What is the difference between a wired system and a wireless one?
It’s often difficult to install a wired system in an existing home, but they are usually ideal for homes under construction and less costly to install, at that point, than wireless systems. The advantage of a wired system is that it does not rely on batteries. The wire provides a tangible link between the sensor and the master control.

Wireless systems, however, can be installed just about anywhere. They also eliminate the need for a wire link, which can be broken or can pick up radio interference. Although it is possible that the wireless system’s radio link can be interrupted, the control unit periodically checks the link and if the link is not there, the control unit will notify the monitoring service. Also, these systems require batteries, but always come with a low battery indicator that is activated thirty days before it actually dies.

Fairfield Electric can install either type of system or a combination of both.

How much does the security system cost?
The cost depends on which options you choose to include in your system. Your security consultant can help you decide what is best for your budget and your security needs.

How do I know I can trust SAFER?
Fairfield Electric went into the security business in 1991. Today, we have hundreds of systems installed in homes, businesses and churches. Fairfield Electric is a recognized provider of reasonably priced, quality alarm equipment and we provide our alarm customers with the same prompt, efficient service our electric customers have come to expect. We invite you to contact your neighbors and friends who are using SAFER and ask them how they like the system.
